Perfect Timing
Sometimes life has a way of throwing us curve balls. There is a delay in an outcome we are hoping to produce, or the timing doesn’t work out as we planned. We’re not where we think we should be, financially, socially, professionally, creatively, or romantically.
And yet even in this, there is perfection.
In other words, for those of you who think your time has passed, or it’s too late, or there...
Non-Issues
Fact of the matter is, everything is a non-issue until someone decides otherwise.

What do you see?
To young souls, there are good folks & bad folks.
To mature souls there are only good folks, though some do bad things.
And old souls, only see themselves.

10 Reasons to Stop Apologizing for Your Online...
It’s time to start living in 21st century reality: a reality that is both on- and offline. Acknowledge online life as real, and the Internet’s transformative potential opens up:
When you commit to being your real self online, you discover parts of yourself you never dared to share offline.
When you visualize the real person you’re about to e-mail or tweet, you bring human...
Alone in Paris
There is art everywhere in Paris; on the Metro, tired looking old men play haunting melodies on their accordions, lovers make out on park benches and there’s a monument to beauty every time you turn a corner. Wandering around Montmartre, which is certainly as confusing an area as London Bridge, wasn’t frightening or overwhelming because I didn’t really have anywhere to be; you can’t get lost...
7 principles for dealing with haters
1. It doesn’t matter how many people don’t get it. What matters is how many people do.
2. 10% of people will find a way to take anything personally. Expect it.
3. “Trying to get everyone to like you is a sign of mediocrity.” — Colin Powell
4. “If you are really effective at what you do, 95% of the things said about you will be negative.” —Scott...
On Not Believing in Hard Work
I don’t believe in hard work.
*Gasp!* How anti-American! How sexy, how beatnik, how totally rebellious. But I don’t mean it in a rebellious sort of way. In fact, I do believe in a lot of other things. I believe in attention, I believe in focus, I believe in fascination, and cultivated awareness and consciousness and presence. I believe in flow. But here is what I do not believe in: I do not...

Challenging your thoughts
Bring awareness into the moment and observe your thoughts without judgment. Then, write down thoughts or beliefs on a piece of paper. The simple act of separating yourself from your thoughts is empowering. It allows you to recognize that 1) you are not your thoughts and 2) you have the power to change your thoughts.

You mean I have a choice?
Flashback lots and lots of years ago:
I’m sitting on a balcony of my apartment building looking at the mountains with my friend Kurt who is visiting me in Asheville. In only three days, I’m supposed to head back to Northern Virginia – as my three month visit to the mountains of North Carolina has come to an end.
I sigh very heavy and very deep.
After one of those long pauses that only the...
Don't Get Jaded
Young entrepreneurs, if I could whisper advice back at myself when I was your age, I would say “Don’t get jaded. People will make everything out to be terribly complicated and heavy, but that is only one way of looking at things. You don’t have to change the whole world, just one tiny corner of it.”
Middle-aged entrepreneurs, if I could whisper something in your ear right now, it is “Listen to...

Fitting in ensures you'll be forgotten
Originality. Uniqueness. The unexpected. The fun. The playful. The memorable.
Were we rewarded for those things in school?
Nope.
But we sure are now. Here’s the good news: if you felt left out of things in school, like you didn’t get it or if you got bored in class, always daydreaming and wishing there was more to life than a stuffy classroom, things are looking very bright right...
When to stop talking
I find it very easy to talk, talk, talk. I’m a talkative person, plus, as a writer, I work alone and in silence for most of the day, so when I’m around people, I have a strong impulse to talk. If there’s a problem of some kind, I want to talk, when sometimes I should be more focused on listening. Also, I worry about knowing the right thing to say, and that can distract me from listening.
